WILLIAM CARROLL CYPERT
William Carroll Cypert was born February 10, 1815 in Wayne Co., Tennessee. He was the son of Jesse Cypert and Jemima Worthen. William Carroll Cypert died March 5, 1865 in Alton Prison, Madison Co., Illinois and is buried in the Alton prison cemetery. Contrary to the belief of others that he was a soldier, prison records indicate that he was a citizen as opposed to a soldier. It is believed that citizens were incarcerated for being sympathizers to the south, hid confederates, or refused to sign an oath to the Union to not fight against them.
William Carroll Cypert married Rebecca Lawson January 24, 1833 in Wayne Co., Tennessee. Rebecca was the daughter of Mordecai Lawson and Frances Stephens.
