CHARLIE MORGAN SMITH

Charlie was born November 9, 1869 in Harris Co., Georgia. He was the son of Owen H. Smith and Nancy Caroline Poer. Charlie married Lydia Carolyn Piper on December 27, 1896 in Troup Co., Georgia.

Lydia Caroline Piper was the daughter of Alexander Piper and Eleanor Dennis. Lydia was born in 1869.

Charlie Morgan Smith died April 23, 1950 in Phenix City, Russell Co., Alabama. He is buried at Pine Grove Cemetery, West Point, Georgia.

Charlie Morgan Smith, 81, a retired contractor, died sometime Saturday night at his home, 1533 Rolph Street, Phenix City. He was found dead in his bed at 6 a.m. Sunday.

  Mr. Smith had come here four days ago from West Point, GA. He was born in Harris County, GA on Nov. 9, 1868. He was a member of the Methodist church.

  Funeral will be held at Colonial Chapel, Monday at 2 p.m. The Rev. C. P. Brazil, assisted by the Rev. Billy Ray, will conduct the service. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, West Point, GA.

  Surviving Mr. Smith are five daughters, Mrs. R. I. Wright, College Park, GA, Mrs. O. K. Cummings, Columbus, Mrs. E. C. Roberts, Mrs. G. C. Burgess, Mrs. E. T. Daniel, all of Phenix City; a brother Jim Smith, West Point, GA; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

  Pallbearers will be L. E. Upton, Herman Day, W. B. Day, Henry Hickman, Douglas Williamson, and O. H. Armstrong.
