William and Elizabeth have been a mystery during the process of reconstructing our family tree. On the 1860 census of Harris Co., Georgia, they lived next door to William's brother, John. The census listed a female with the initials M.E., age one. For now, we will assume that this was a child of William and Elizabeth, and that she died before the age of eleven, as she is not on the 1870 census. Elizabeth's mother, Martha Jane McLean, passed away three years prior to the marriage of William and Elizabeth. Elizabeth's father, Rederick Bazemore, passed away in 1863. It is believed that after his death, her younger brother, Columbus (born 1850), and her younger sister, Sarah (born 1852), came to live with her. This probably was a great comfort to Elizabeth, as William was away fighting in the Civil War. By January of 1869, Columbus and Sarah were living with another sibling, James, in Hogansville (now Troup Co.), Georgia. On the 1870 census, there were three children in the household of William and Elizabeth in Harris Co., Georgia. They were Edna E., age 9; William W., age 4; and Joseph, age 1.
